Embrace Your Weirdness

Embrace Your Weirdness

I have been called weird for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I took this as an insult. It really hurt my feelings and made me feel different and like I would never fit in.

Now in my 40s, I embrace my weirdness. I joke with my clients that they should come to expect weird when they enter my office. And most of them like that because weird is not boring. Weird is interesting. Weird is about letting your hair down completely, and being exactly who you are, no apologies.

Weird is not about trying to fit in - conforming to what others want you to be. Weird is about belonging. Weird is about finding those other weirdos who are your tribe, and being completely and utterly, who you are. It is about being goofy and not worrying about what other people think. It is about marching to the beat of your own drummer.

Weird is about owning what makes you uniquely you. It is about loving all of you, even the parts that don’t feel pretty or polished. It is about knowing that you are doing the best that you can, moment to moment, and to honor that that is enough. It is about only caring about what you think of yourself. You are the only one you have to answer to.

Weird is about dancing like no one is watching, laughing unabashedly, and just saying, “who cares” to convention. It is about paving the course to your own life and truly being in your power.
