Most Benevolent Outcome

Many years ago, I learned a simple yet profound prayer that has stuck with me ever since:

“Most benevolent outcome; this or something better.”

This prayer has become an anchor—a soft, powerful reminder to release control and trust that the universe is always working for my highest good (and for the good of all involved). It’s a way of aligning with something bigger than my limited perspective. A whisper of surrender.

The first time I used it was about eight years ago. I was interviewing for a job that felt like a long shot. I was nervous, sweaty-palmed, and second-guessing everything. I arrived early, parked in the lot, and sat in my car repeating the phrase again and again:

“Most benevolent outcome; this or something better.”

By the time I walked into the building, I wasn’t gripping so tightly. I didn’t need to get the job anymore. That spaciousness allowed me to show up as my real, grounded self—no performance, no trying to impress. I even remembered, mid-interview, that I was also evaluating them to see if the job aligned with my values.

And something magical happened.

Not only did I get offered the job on the spot—but I ended up saying yes, and through that position, I met two women who are now some of my dearest friends. All these years later, I still feel the ripple effects of that experience.

That’s the beauty of this prayer. It doesn’t guarantee a particular outcome—but it does open a portal. To possibility. To grace. To being met in ways you might never have orchestrated on your own.

So wherever you are—facing a decision, standing at a crossroads, trying to plan what’s next—I offer you this:

May you trust in the unfolding. May you receive the most benevolent outcome—this or something better.
